TIRANA - A Sunday of battle for the leadership of the PD. The meeting of the Party’s National Council lasted more than 11 hours and gave a radiography of the causes and problems of the PD that had been set aside. There was strong pressure from the party leadership and heavy pressure from the whole section of the “motionists”, who demanded the replacement of the leaders and the removal of President Berisha from the party leadership. Such ideas were raised by Kastriot Islami [?] and by several others. In any case, the main feature of the 11 hours of debate was the silence and absence of the figure of the head of state and PD leader Sali Berisha.
The Party Council analyzed and discussed the dramatic developments in the country, the role of its leaders and the possibilities for recovery. In this meeting, the new leadership bodies of the PD were also elected. Pollo was elected Secretary General, while there were changes in the Presidency. Shehu noted that “Enough with the PD, but not with the base”, signaling a move away from the central leadership, but not from the democratic supporters.
In Tirana, Shehu was congratulated for his emergence into the broad mass for support, and he said that things are moving toward a reconfiguration of the party. In the end, the party leaders are expected to reflect this also in the PD’s periphery.

International mission
Peacekeepers arrive: Where are we?
Peacekeepers arrive:
Where are we?
Fatos Baxhaku
Today, Albanians will have to applaud the thousands of foreign soldiers who will land in Albania to bring peace. A month ago, no one imagined that Albania needed foreigners to solve its problems, but such is this complicated world: what you did not think possible only a short while ago, you must now not only welcome, but also applaud.
Beneath the modern uniforms and weapons landing in Albania today under the name—one must admit not at all warlike—"Alba", lies a long history of relations with the smallest Balkan homeland, our Albania, connecting each of the European participants in "Alba" with a series of coincidences, differences and interests, which it would be good to know before we begin cheering for the "international angels of peace". Italy, Turkey, Greece, Spain, France, Romania and Denmark. Today they will see what we are like. They will also land in another country in the name of agreements signed within a tangled diplomatic framework that has involved the whole of today's world.
Officially it has been said that "Alba" will help the army and other government forces distribute humanitarian aid throughout the country's territory. A noble mission without a doubt, one from which hundreds of thousands of Albanians, traumatized and waiting for the state’s hand to be opened to them because of the hardship that has befallen them, expect salvation. It has been said so far only in whispers—doesn't diplomacy usually hide things when they have gone quite well—that the mission and the troops will be a very important factor in calming the entire troubled Balkan region, and it seems this is one of the lessons Europe has learned recently. Bosnia, whose hundreds of thousands of dead still weigh on the conscience of many politicians who stress exactly when they should not—must not happen again.
Europe has decided to be more authoritative, at least in terms of foreseeing what the tendencies (possible treaties) of fire have been. It is not certain that it is understood that an Albania outside any state control, with the many problems that strain it with its neighbors, could be a bomb of the Latin kind. Here it emerges how the first aim of today's European “peacekeeping” landing seems to be, whatever the course of events. It will also transport flour and biscuits, of course, but that does not absolve the “international community”. It has itself given examples of being even more cynical than it should be in the face of poverty, which it does not consider a great misfortune so long as it does not create international problems.
Today the vast majority of military personnel, who are not all Albanians, will land in Albania, they will be welcomed and helped to carry out their mission, something that has never been considered by all sides. But it would have been far better if we ourselves, as a nation, had solved things on our own; then the “angels of peace” would have gone to some other destination, one of the many countries that in these last years...

TIRANA - The international military mission on Albanian soil begins today in the early hours of the morning, under the peaceful name “Alba”. Thousands of soldiers from seven European countries—Italy, Greece, Turkey, Romania, Spain, France and Denmark—come today to contribute to the Albanian government’s efforts to distribute aid in support of peace. “They will contribute to the distribution of humanitarian aid alongside the Albanian authorities,” that is the official mission of the foreign marines, but many people see even further...

South-Tirana, a journey with risks
- The journey toward the capital from the southern edge of the country remains an adventure. Buses with Gjirokastër license plates drop off their passengers in Përren, and there they are forced to change vehicle and continue to the capital with buses bearing Tirana license plates. Fear and uncertainty grip all those passengers; police checks began only on 14 April 1997. The price of a ticket has risen significantly and drivers justify it with the increase in fuel prices and the insecurity on the roads.

The usury bosses must also return to their cells
TIRANA - Former President Ramiz Alia has left Albania. At least that is what is learned from close circles that lived near the former president. But last night communication with him had been working. Meanwhile, Aranit Çela, Lenka Çuko, Reiz Malilea and Marko Kiço, who had surrendered themselves to the Tirana prison in order to avoid further punishment, were also reported, as were the keys to prison 313 in Tirana. It is also learned that there is a number of prisoners who had surrendered themselves by Saturday evening, when the deadline for the pardon of one third of the sentence expired, the name of which [?]
